Mr. Johnson is a trial lawyer who focuses his practice on commercial litigation with an emphasis on real estate, lending, and construction disputes. Mr. Johnson represents and advises regional and national clients in litigation involving contract and payment disputes, shareholder and partnership disputes, and business divorces. Prior to forming Knight Johnson, Mr. Johnson worked for the law firm of Morris, Manning, and Martin.  Mr. Johnson has been recognized by Super Lawyers and Atlanta Magazine as a Super Lawyer Rising Star in Business Litigation for 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. He was also recognized as one of Georgia's "Legal Elite" in Business Litigation by Georgia Trends Magazine in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Representative Experience

Real Estate Litigation 

  • Obtained second highest jury verdict in the State of Georgia in 2012 for contract cases.  Successfully represented apartment developer in week long jury trial against regional bank for breach of a construction loan and prevailed on appeal. 
  • Successfully enjoined bank from foreclosing on large apartment complex in Memphis, Tennessee and defeated bank’s motion for summary judgment, allowing client’s damage claims against bank to proceed to trial
  • Successfully negotiated significant reduction in potential $12M deficiency judgment against Atlanta-based developer of luxury townhouses
  • Prevailed in numerous foreclosure confirmation actions brought by lenders against regional developer and real estate investor clients, preventing lenders from pursuing significant deficiency judgments against those clients
  • Represented real estate developers and investors in collection actions brought by lenders, the FDIC, and third-parties such as Rialto Capital Management


  • Successfully represented national developer in litigation involving the design and construction of the largest mixed-use/marina resort development in the southeastern United States
  • Represented the owner/developer of the Atlantic Station mixed-use project in Atlanta, Georgia in construction claims and litigation relating to the project
  • Represent wide variety of developers, general contractors, subcontractors, and regional homebuilders in litigation involving construction defects, delay claims, and payment disputes
  • Regularly draft and negotiate design and construction contracts for developers, general contractors and design firms

Business Litigation 

  • Successfully represented international technology company in high--stakes bid protest litigation and obtained judicial affirmation of $391 million contract awarded to client for new Medicaid Management Information System
  • Successfully represented national steel door and building components manufacturer in litigation involving failed merger with competitor
  • Represent wide range of businesses—from Fortune 500 companies to small start-ups—in wide variety of disputes, including contract and payment disputes, shareholder and partnership disputes, and business divorces
